Industrial relations

Synopsis The subject introduces the environment, parties and processes involved in Australian industrial relations, as well as relevant theories. Although the focus is upon Australia, overseas comparisons will be used as appropriate. The subject aims to create an understanding of industrial relations at the macro level and to develop analytical skills appropriate to solving industrial relations problems. Topics covered include employer associations and management, theories of unionism, conciliation and arbitration, collective bargaining, productivity bargaining, grievance and disciplinary procedures, wages policy, and legislative reform of industrial relations.

Assessment Written (assignments 4000 words): 40% * Examination: 60%
