Objectives This subject aims to develop the ability of students to contribute through effective human resource management to the achievement of strategic organisational objectives. Knowledge will be extended by analysis of the complex interrelationships, involving environmental and organisational factors, which must be taken into account in the development and implementation of human resource management practices.

Synopsis This subject offers an overview of the major issues and areas of responsibility for personnel management/human resource management (HRM). It considers the role of HRM in organisations. The underlying theme is the contribution HRM can make through its responsibilities for the effective use of staff to facilitate the achievement of organisational objectives.

Assessment Assignment 1 (2500-word essay): 20% * Assignment 2 (2500-word essay): 30% * Examination (3 hours): 50% * Students must pass the exam and obtain an overall pass in the subject.
