Objectives The primary objective of this subject is to develop in-depth understanding of the hospitality and attractions sectors as elements of the tourism system. It aims also to provide students who are employed or are planning a career in tourism with the knowledge necessary for effective operation of hospitality and attractions enterprises, and to cultivate appropriate attitudes with respect to customer orientation, staff development, community involvement and resource sustainability.
Synopsis Accommodation types and trends, hotel ownership and the hotel development process, hotel management, reservations and computerisations, front and back of house operations, guest accounting, site and event attractions, special interest markets and cultural tourism, managing a major tourist attraction, Financial management, funding and sponsorship, sales and marketing planning for tourism attractions, staff development and customer service.
Assessment Two assignments (2000 words): 50% * Examination (3 hours): 50%
