Financial management

Objectives The subject aims to introduce students to accounting and the finance options available to businesses through an examination of the roles, tasks and responsibilities of accountants, and of their importance to organisations. Students will learn to produce typical business financial and management reports and to analyse these statements for decision-making purposes.

Synopsis Overview of business environment, accounting reports, capital investment analysis, financial decisions, sources of finance, management of working capital, tools of financial analysis, budgeting and performance measure.

Assessment Assignment 1 (exercise and reports: 15% * Assignment 2 (case study, exercises and reports): 15% * Examination (3 hours): 70% * Students must obtain a satisfactory result in all areas of assessment.
