Human resource practices

Objectives This subject aims to develop in students the understanding necessary for efficient and effective utilisation of employees through implementation of appropriate human resource management policies and practices. Students will gain knowledge of the various human resource management functional areas, the role which human resource management can play in the achievement of an organisation's strategic objectives, and the legal and industrial contexts in which human resource policies and practices must be developed and implemented.

Synopsis This subject offers an overview of the major issues and areas of responsibility for personnel management/human resource management (HRM). It considers the role of HRM in organisations. The underlying theme is the contribution HRM can make through its responsibilities for the effective use of staff to facilitate the achievement of organisational objectives.

Assessment Assignment 1 (1500-word essay: 20% * Assignment 2 (2000-word essay): 30% * Examination (3 hours): 50% Students must pass the exam and obtain an overall pass in the subject.
