Accounting research project

6 points * Equivalent to 3 class hours per week * Distance approximately 12 hours per week * First, second semester * Gippsland * Prerequisites: GBU2005

Objectives Drawing on knowledge of accounting and business gained during earlier studies, students will learn to investigate an issue of personal interest to them relating to accounting, auditing or finance. Students will define a research problem, prepare a research proposal, locate sources of relevant information, select methods to solve research problems, manage a research project and document their research. They will become aware that there are many approaches to research, and that investigating one research problem often reveals other research problems.

Synopsis This subject involves the application of skills gained in the course to specific problems relating to accounting, auditing or finance. Although a literature-based project is possible, it is expected that most projects will be industry-based. These projects will identify a specific problem and develop suggestions or systems to meet the problem. The completed report will be of an appropriate standard of presentation and expression, technically sound and relevant to the problem defined in the submission.

Assessment Completed projects will be assessed by the supervisory staff member, and a second staff member appointed by the accounting teaching team
