Asian business law

Objectives On completion of this subject students should: understand the international legal framework in which trade between nations takes place; understand the international legal framework in which trade between nations takes place; be familiar with the law relating to, and the nature of documents used in contracts of sale in the S.E. Asian region, finance of regional trading transactions, carriage of goods in regional trade and dispute resolution in the context of regional trade; understand the operation of, and the relationship between the regional legal framework for the operation of S.E. Asian trade and investment and the national legal systems of selected ASEAN member nations; be able to identify and understand legal issues in a regional trade context.

Synopsis This subject examines the law affecting a person engaged in business on a regional scale in the Asian region; international and regional trade conventions; import/export regulatory regimes of selected ASEAN member nations; international carriage of goods in South-East Asia; the law and practice of financing regional trade.

Assessment Research essay (2500 words): 30% * Two class tests (2 x 2 hours): 30% each * Class attendance and participation: 10%
