Advanced taxation (business)

6 points * 3 hours per week * First semester * Caulfield * Prerequisites: All subjects of Graduate Diploma in Taxation (unless exemptions granted).

Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the use of partnerships, trusts and companies for the purpose of conducting business operations; the revenue (income tax, fringe benefits and state tax) implications of alternative business entities; the interactions of the various revenue acts with other legislations affecting business entities.

Synopsis An investigation of Federal and State taxation issues relevant to complex modern business transactions with emphasis placed on integrated analysis of taxation issues by way of case study seminar work having regard to the legal and commercial context of business transactions.

Assessment Research paper (5000-7000 words): 50% * Examination (take home) 50%
