Objectives On completion of this subject students should: comprehend the financial structure of modern Japan; appreciate the operational and regulatory aspects of specific types of Japanese financial institutions and markets; the role of Tokyo and Japanese banks in international banking and finance.
Synopsis This subject examines the development of Japan's financial sector and the impact of economic, legal, regulatory and taxation factors; the role and operations of Japanese banks and other financial institutions, money market, bond and sharemarkets, and foreign exchange market; the internationalisation and deregulation of Japanese banking and finance; and Tokyo as a financial centre.
