Personal financial planning

Objectives On successful completion of this unit the student will demonstrate an understanding of the structure, regulation and participants in the financial planning industry; demonstrate knowledge of the financial planning process; demonstrate an understanding of retirement planning and social security issues of financial planning; demonstrate knowledge of legal issues associated with financial planning.

Synopsis Financial planning legislation, regulation, dealers, advisers, licences and proper authorities; banking industry financial services; the financial planning process, including client interview, data gathering, analysis, portfolio design, taxation and social security; superannuation, eligible termination payments, approved deposit funds, annuities, pensions; social security benefits, allowances and pensions, assets, income, deprivation; law of tort and contract, negligence, duty of care, liability, disclaimers and disclosures.

Assessment Assignment (2000 words): 30% * Final examination (3 hours): 70%
