Aspects of applied health economics

Objectives On completion of this subject students should have an in-depth understanding of the most recent research developments in a number of theoretical and applied areas of health economics; and an appreciation of the appropriate methodologies for the analysis of these issues.
Synopsis A series of seminars on selected topics in health economics. Each student will present one such seminar. Topics will reflect current staff research interests and topics selected by students. They will include the diffusion and impact of technology; the economics of the pharmaceutical industry; ethics and equity in health care; entrepreneurial medicine, managed competition and the reform of health care systems. There will be some guest lectures from the University of Sydney's Centre for Health Economic Research and Evaluation.
