Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the theories of international trade, the main theories of the effects of international trade on economic development on poor/developing countries; be able to analyse the expected effects of different types of international economic policies on the economic development of especially developing countries.
Synopsis Theories of trade and development; trade and development in the historical context; trade policies for the promotion of economic development; balance of payments problems and policies; customs; unions and free trade associations, foreign aid, and foreign investment.
Assessment Written (3000-word essay): 30% * Examination: 60% * Oral presentation: 10%
