Topics in economics honours

Objectives On completion of this subject participants should have strengthened their appreciation of the use of economics as a problem-solving tool, and recognised the versatility and limitation of economic analysis; consolidated their knowledge of the `economic way of thinking'; reinforced confidence in their ability to evaluate public debate on economic issues, in particular in their ability to discriminate between matters of substance and rhetoric and acquired a useful preparation for the rigours of graduate study in economics.

Synopsis The format of the classwork consists of small blocks of lectures, typically four each, that utilise the particular expertise of various members of staff and guest lecturers. The specific content varies from year to year in the light of the topicality of economic issues as well as the interests and research activities of participating staff.

Assessment Take-home examination: 100%
