Objectives Upon completion of this subject students should: have developed an appreciation of the human resource management function within organisations and its potential contribution to organisational effectiveness; understand the influences, issues and underlying theories of current human resource management activities and practices; have acquired skills and knowledge in applying different human resource activities or practices within an organisation in either a specialist HRM role or as a line manager.
Synopsis Topics covered include the strategic importance of human resource management, human resource planning, job analysis, recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, training and development, job evaluation and remuneration, equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment, occupational health and safety, redundancy and retrenchment, and human resource auditing. Content and assignment will have special emphasis on human resource management in retail organisations.
Assessment Individual assignment (up to 3000 words): 30% * Company report (up to 3000 words): 30% * Final examination (2.5 hours): 40%.
