Introductory accounting and financial information systems I

Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to: understand how to prepare accounting records including profit and loss statements and balance sheets under the accrual concept of accounting for different types of business organisations; understand the nature, purpose and limitations of accounting reports and the use of accounting information in decision making.

Synopsis Course will be a mixture of `lecture' presentations (with opportunity for discussion) and problem solving/exercise activities; discussion questions and exercises will be taken from the class exercises that appear at the end of each topic; students should prepare answers to these prior to the class.

Assessment Objective test: 30% * Final examination (3 hours): 70%
