The Department of Asian Languages and Studies teaches a major sequence in Vietnamese language and culture for students who have never studied Vietnamese. A first-year level sequence is available to students with VCE/Year 12 Vietnamese or the equivalent.

Background streams
Vietnamese background students will need to be tested by the department prior to enrolment to determine their appropriate level. Depending on the result, students will be enrolled at second-year level, third-year level or as native speakers.
