Korean

The Department of Asian Languages and Studies offers a major sequence in Korean language. The first year of this sequence consists of KOR1110 and KOR1120. This leads to KOR2210 and KOR2220 in the second year and KOR3310, KOR3320, KOR3330 and KOR3340 in the third year. The course presumes no previous knowledge of the Korean language or system of writing. The first-year course places relatively greater emphasis on spoken Korean and the importance of contact situations in determining appropriate speech. The Korean system of writing will also be introduced. The second and third-year subjects build on and reinforce the skills obtained in the first year.
