Greek studies

Greek studies is offered for those who have a broader interest in Greek culture and who wish to approach it from either an ancient or modern perspective, or both. It may include either Ancient or Modern Greek, but can also be taken without reference to either language.

At first-year level a student may take a first-year course in archaeology, ancient history, classical civilisation, Ancient Greek or Modern Greek.

At second and third-year levels a variety of subjects is available which enables students to combine different aspects of Greek culture (literary, historical, artistic) or to specialise in one aspect in particular. Those who have begun with Ancient or Modern Greek in first year may include further language studies.

Minor sequence

A minor sequence comprises the minor sequence outlined above followed by third-year level Greek studies subjects to the value of sixteen points plus eight points worth of work chosen from either second or third-year subjects.

An alternative minor sequence comprises second-year level Greek studies subjects to the value of sixteen points followed by third-year level subjects totalling at least twelve points.

Major sequence

Fourth-year honours is available to students who have completed a major at the appropriate level in Greek studies.

First-year level
