Caulfield/Peninsula sectionThe Caulfield/Peninsula section of the department offers sequences of subjects which constitute minor and major programs in the BA. An honours year as well as a Graduate Diploma of Applied Psychology are also available.
Subjects are available full-time and part-time on Caulfield and Peninsula campuses. Evening classes are offered on the Caulfield campus only.
First-year subjects, APY1010 and APY1020, provide a general introduction to psychology as a science, with practical work programs to augment the material provided in the lectures. In second year, APY2010 provides a core program in developmental psychology supplemented by study modules in physiological psychology and research design. This subject is offered in first semester. In the second semester, APY2020 offers programs of study in personality, social psychology and research design.
There is no choice of subjects in first and second years, and subjects must be completed in the order APY1010, APY1020, APY2010, APY2020. This sequence constitutes a minor in the BA.
First-year subjects carry a points value of six points each, and second-year subjects a value of eight points each.
In third year, the subjects offered develop the applied nature of psychology in several different fields. APY3010 deals with psychology in the industrial setting, with programs of study in psychological assessment and classification, education and training, and psychological aspects of technological systems. APY3020 deals with vocational development and choice, and organisational behaviour. Students must also complete APY3040, the central theme of which is theory, research and experimental methods in psychology. These three subjects are compulsory in the BA major. For those seeking entry into the honours year or the Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology, a fourth subject must be chosen from a range of options. These include APY3030 (Professional development), APY3050 (Community psychology), APY3060 (Psychology and the law), APY3070 (Experiential counselling), APY3080 (Health psychology) and APY3090 (Sport psychology).
The BA major requires a minimum of fifty-two points, which is met by completing two subjects at first-year level, two at second-year level, and three at third-year level. Students are advised that a fourth subject at third-year level is necessary to meet the accreditation criteria of the Australian Psychological Society.

Entry to the honours year APY4000 requires at least an average of credit in third-year subjects.
