Indonesian

The Department of Asian Languages and Studies offers studies in Indonesian language at Monash University Gippsland campus. The Indonesian subjects are coordinated from and taught by staff of the Department of Asian Languages and Studies (Clayton campus), where Indonesian has been taught for more than thirty years. A staff member is based at Gippsland and is adapting the subjects to regional needs.

The department plans to expand the Indonesian course gradually, until it constitutes a major sequence of study which may be undertaken over three years. The subjects will be equivalent to those already being taught at Clayton (beginning, intermediate and advanced Indonesian).

Indonesian is comparatively accessible language in that it does not have a strange script or tones like some other languages. Students therefore have the chance to achieve a high level of competence in language usage.
