Indonesian and Southeast Asian film and television

A study of Indonesian cinema since the coming of independence in 1950, examining the Indonesian cinema both as an industry and as site of expression for popular culture and for Indonesian artists, in the context of a changing political climate and intense government regulation. There will also be some discussion of news programs on Indonesian television and of the presently expanding commercial television industry in Indonesia, and some discussion of film and television in some other Southeast Asian countries.
