Introduction to modern Spain

A Kenwood

8 points * 3 hours per week * First semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: SPN1010 or SPN1070

The subject studies Spain from 1936 to the present day. Lectures survey major social, political and cultural developments of the period, while tutorial work focuses on specific textual and audiovisual material: cultural documents, literary texts and films. The integrative approach presents a coherent and balanced account of Spain's emergence from a backward, predominantly agricultural country in the 1930s to a modern, progressive industrial nation today.
