Introduction to sociology II

The historical and theoretical context of sociology as a university discipline. This subject is designed to build on the perspective developed in SCY1032. Lectures, tutorials and coursework are built around the following: (a) theory and theorising (b) research and society and (c) traditions of sociological research. The subject will follow this pattern: introduction to the philosophy of social science, the concept of `industrial society' and the role of social research; urban sociology, organisations, technology, etc.
