Politics of the Middle East

8 points * 3 hours per week * First semester * Clayton

This subject examines aspects of contemporary Middle East politics encompassing both the Arab world (particularly Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Jordan) and the non-Arab world (particularly Iran and Israel). The political culture, development and processes of the key countries in the region will be analysed. Regional relationships and conflicts will be examined (particularly the Gulf War, the Lebanon War and the Arab/Israeli conflict), and the implications for international politics and superpower rivalry will also be considered.

Assessment

Written (2500 words) and tutorial presentation: 50% * Examinations (3 hours): 50%
