Recent European philosophy

The subject focuses on the work of Jacques Derrida, his strategy of deconstruction and his critique of Western philosophy. Where relevant, themes in the work of Saussure, Husserl, Heidegger, Foucault and Lacan will be introduced. The influence of Derrida on recent French feminist thought will also be discussed.

Assessment

Two 3000-word essays: 50% each * Optional replacement of one essay by a 3-hour examination
