Metaphysics

8 points * 2 hours per week * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisite: First-year sequence in philosophy and 2 eight-point subjects including at least one of PHL2110, PHL2130 or PHL2170
The subject will deal with philosophical problems concerning modality and some issues in the metaphysics of individuals, properties, relations, change, events and fate. A large part of the subject will be based on recent articles which will be made available, and there will be ample opportunities for seminar discussions.
Assessment
Two 3000-word essays: 50% each * Optional replacement of one essay by a 3-hour examination
