Structure and organisation of policing

6 points * 3 hours per week * Second semester * Caulfield/Clayton/Distance * Prerequisites: PCE1010

The structure of the relationship between the police and the executive government - the accountability of the commissioner and, where appropriate, the police board. Internal discipline - the handling of complaints against the police; the roles of the internal investigation department, police complaints authorities and ombudsman. The role of police unions. The development of administrative skills for handling tasks, eg planning and research, public and community relations, preparation of procedure and policy guidelines.
