Solo and duo performance and literature I

6 points * 1 hour per week * First semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: MUS2980, MUS2110, MUS2120

With assigned studio teachers and department staff, students are required to prepare a chief practical study program totalling about 30 minutes and a chief practical study chamber music program totalling 10-20 minutes in duration. The chief practical study program should include works of varied periods and at least one movement of a multimovement work. Students must perform chamber and/or solo works in concert practice or other approved concert situations, and performance reports by concert advisers are available for perusal after a concert. The subject includes program writing, musicianship and instrument teaching skills. Students are required to write program notes and a critical, analytical and historical essay explaining their choice of program in the context of the relevant literature.

Assessment

Written (2000 words): 15% * Chief practical study examination (including viva voce and chamber performance examination: 85%
