Issues in computational linguistics

This subject, which will be projected based, will critically survey and attempt to apply frameworks proposed in the current literature relevant to a subfield of linguistics suitable for computational treatment. No prior programming experience is assumed; however, students are expected to be prepared to approach linguistic data in a manner consistent with computer-assisted analysis. The focus for 1995 is lexicography. The subject will draw on insights from linguistics, computer science and cognitive science.
Assessment
Written assignments (6000 words): 90% * Practical exercises and class participation: 10%
