Critical debate in contemporary Japan B

The subject will be organised in a seminar fashion and will begin by introducing students to some important factors shaping public debate in Japan: the impact of foreign pressure on Japan, internationalisation, and political ideology and interest groups at home. Students will then examine a series of debates on important phenomena which are affecting the directions in which Japan is headed at the end of the twentieth century.
