The language of the Italian mass media

The subject explores the development of Italian journalism in the light of the political events which followed the unification of Italy. The language of Italian media - specifically the press - is studied in detail as is its influence and contribution to the development of the Italian language. Politics, current affairs, sport and advertising languages are considered in detail. Textual analysis is emphasised.

Assessment

Written (2000 words): 30% * Two class assignments: 60% * Seminar participation: 10%
