Modern Italian literature and society I

8 points * 3 hours per week * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: A first-year subject in Italian, or equivalent knowledge of the language

A study of a selection of novels and short stories, representative of major trends in contemporary Italian realist narrative. The texts will be read in the light of contemporary critical theory, but emphasis will also be given to elements of popular culture, folklore and myth.

Assessment

Written (3000 words): 60% * Examinations (1 hour): 20% * Seminar participation: 20%
