The subject will consist of two sections: (i) Language and (ii) Modern Italian in context. (i) Language: the subject will focus on developing language skills through the use of authentic contemporary written, aural and audiovisual materials representing selected situations and registers. Simultaneously it will examine syntactical areas relevant to the materials used in order to encourage students and enable them to initiate independent self-expression in Italian (60%). (ii) Modern Italian in context: study of a range of modern Italian texts with reference to the social and cultural contexts in which they were written (40%). Three films will be screened in conjunction with the course.
Assessment
Continuous assessment (including periodic tests): 70%. End of semester test: 30%
