Basic statistics and computing for social research

First semester * 3 hours per week - subject value 1.0 (6 points) * Gippsland/Distance

Use of published data - especially Australian Bureau of Statistics, eg labour force, demographic profiles, etc. Introduction to statistical analysis (chi-square, t-test and correlation, ie covering both parametric and non-parametric statistics), sampling, and issues involved in applying social research methods. In conjunction with this subject students will use computers for statistical analysis.

Assessment

Progressive assessment: 80% * Examination: 20%
