This subject combines the opportunity for students to develop and reflect upon their own creative writing skills with the critical study of a number of literary and media texts. The notion of authorship will be interrogated in relation to a variety of writing practices: fiction, scripts, film. The romantic conception of the author (and that of the film auteur) will be examined in the light of recent critical theories. The situation of writers will be considered in the contexts of gender, class, and historical and geographical location.

Essay (1500 words): 30% * Essay (1500 words): 30% * Examination (2 hours): 40% * The total word length for assessment will not exceed 5000 words
