This subject will focus on the changing issues and events since 1945. Topics studied include the origins of the post-1945 world; the causes and consequences of the Cold War and impact of superpower dominance; decolonisation of Asia; the third industrial revolution; the division of the world into first, second and third worlds, political and economic rights for women; the globalisation of mass communications; the resurgence of religion, nationalism and tribalism; the new world order; regional reconfigurations; and the future of the Asian-Pacific basin.
Assessment
Tutorial paper (1000 words): 20% * Exercise (1500 words): 40% * Examination (2 hours): 40%
