Welfare organisational practice I

Subject value of 1.0 (6 points) * 3 hours per week * Gippsland/Distance (for BW and AW students only): Second semester * Distance only (for GW students): First semester * Prerequisites: GSC1303 (BW and AW students). Students are advised that they should observe normal sequencing of the course subjects as outlined in the handbook * Corequisites: GSC1303 (for GW students only)

This subject will examine two areas of organisational practice: management and organisational theory, and law. Topics include organisational structure, management theory, teamwork and administrative skills necessary for effective organisational practice, how laws are made, the role of the welfare worker in relation to the law, and specific areas of law which are relevant to organisations, workers and clients. This subject will also include a compulsory twenty-day fieldwork education placement for both on-campus and distance education students, the aim of which is to integrate relevant organisational and legal theory and practice. Distance education students should note that there are no weekend or residential schools in this subject.

Assessment

Field education placement workbook (2000-2500 words): 50% * Law assignment (2500 words): 50% * Both pieces of assessment must be passed to achieve a pass in the subject.
