The subject is designed to develop an understanding of the range of welfare issues in Australian society today, the interconnections and relationships between them, and how the array of social political, economic, legal and media influences shape our consideration of these issues. Students are personally challenged to look at their own values and reflect on how these affect their perceptions and general understanding of the issues. Students are encouraged to examine these issues from various sociological perspectives within a framework of gender and social justice.
