This subject introduces the nature and scope of environmental regulation, emphasising domestic regulation in Australia and the United States but also considering aspects related to international regulation. Competing models of regulation are assessed and evaluated, and topics such as tradeable pollution permits, property rights and social cost accounting are considered in detail. The roles and status of environmental protection agencies are also closely examined.
