BT BB BS DT GA PA BC BDT BY BBY

Sue Kelliher, Barry Richardson and Dianne Wuillemin

Subject value of 1.0 (6 point) * One 2-hour lecture and one 3-hour laboratory per week * Second semester * Gippsland/Distance * Prerequisites: GAS2504 plus two subjects from GAS2501, GAS2502, GAS2503 or equivalent second-level subjects

Material covered in GAS2504 (especially ANOVA) is briefly reviewed with more emphasis on post hoc comparisons, design issues and multiple variables. Other topics include multiple regression, single-subject designs, and the use of statistical computer packages to handle complex designs such as MANOVA. The teaching of these topics has the aim of increasing students' abilities to design and conduct their own research and to broaden the field of research that students can critically evaluate. Topics will be treated within the context of writing research reports suitable for replication and/or publication, in preparation for postgraduate work in psychology. Distance education students are required to attend a two-day weekend or residential school involving the use of computer statistical packages.
