The French Enlightenment

8 points * 3 hours per week * First semester * Clayton campus

An introduction, through selected plays and narrative fiction, to the major literary, intellectual and political currents of eighteenth-century France. Attention will be given in lectures and seminars to the portrayal of women in the prescribed texts and to the sociopolitical status of women in the period.

Assessment

Essay (2000 words): 40% * Class paper: 20% * Test: 40%
