4 points * 3 hours per week * First semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: FRN1080 or equivalent

In a thematic framework which introduces aspects of contemporary French society, acquisition of advanced communication skills in spoken and written French with special emphasis on proficiency in the broad areas of exposition and argument. Revision and extension of explicit competence in areas of syntax appropriate to the communicative skills practised. Translation (French to English) integrated with the themes, communicative functions and syntax studied and developed within the subject.

Assessment

Three compositions in French (300/400 words each): 30% * Three translations into French (200 words each): 10% * Oral work: 25% * Aural comprehension test: 5% * Examination (2 hours) including composition: 15%; comprehension: 10%; and translation: 5%
