Introduction to fraud studies

3 hours per week * First/Second semester * Caulfield/Distance

A study of the various concepts and theories of fraud and white collar crime. The characteristics of fraud and the understanding of certain theories of fraud. An exercise in the separation of fact from fiction. The ability to identify class distinctions in fraud. The basic social theories of crime particularly as they relate to fraud. Recognition of the effects of fraud on individuals, corporations, government and society. Understanding the roles of various social structures in the management of fraud. A perspective of students' own roles and functions in law enforcement, regulation and society. Comprehensive fraud management in organisations and communities. Importance of fraud analysis as a tool in fraud management.

Assessment

Major essay (4000 words): 40% * Minor essay (1500 words): 30%)* Tutorial (750 words): 20% * Class participation: 10%
