Proposed to be offered next in 1996

I O'Loughlin

8 points * 2 hours per week * First semester * Peninsula

The subject examines literary texts and ideas in relation to the society which produces them, and in relation to changing approaches to literary theory and criticism. The major texts may be grouped around a particular theme or may focus on a particular period, and selected reading from major thinkers of the period will be studied in relation to their effect on the chosen texts. The study highlights texts which reflect women's concerns and women's changing roles in society. The texts chosen illustrate varied approaches to these issues. Feminist critical perspectives will be explored and developed.
