Twentieth-century poetry

Proposed to be offered next in 1996

8 points * 2 hours seminar per week, with occasional lectures * Second semester * Caulfield * Prerequisites: ENH1010 and ENH1100, or approved equivalents

This subject will involve close readings of poetry in the context of the following periods and movements of the twentieth century: imagism, Eliot and the rise of modernism, the American poetic renaissance of mid-century, Australian verse and its struggle to evolve a postcolonial poetic.

Assessment

Essay (1500 words): 25% * Major essay (2500 words): 50% * Class test (1500 words): 25%
