ENH2820

Novel into film (author study)

Proposed to be offered next in 1996

8 points * 4 hours per week * Second semester * Caulfield * Prerequisites: ENH1100 and ENH1110, or approved equivalents

This subject builds on the theoretical framework established in ENH2810 (Novel into film) in which the processes of transposition from a prose fiction narrative to one created in audiovisual moving images are explored. In focusing on the working of a particular author who has been frequently and notably adapted to the screen, the objectives will be to reach an understanding of those elements of the author which appear amenable to the transposition and those which, intransigently tied to the verbal mode, draw on cinema-specific codes, if the filmmaker has sought to find equivalents.

Assessment
