Writing women

8 points * 2 hours per week * First semester * Clayton

The subject provides a general survey of women's literature. It will consistently question and explore the concept of `the difference of view'. In addition the subject will consider texts under various groupings, such as rebels and dutiful daughters, feminising romantic mythology, the Victorian female Gothic, the woman artist, the `new woman' and her vision, female culture and society, and feminist ideology and writing.

Assessment

Essay (3000 words): 50% * One class paper: 20% * One exercise (1500 words): 30% * Students whose written work and participation are satisfactory will be excused an examination
