Film and national culture

8 points * 4 hours per week * Second semester * Caulfield * Prerequisites: ENH1100 and ENH1110, or approved equivalents

This subject will explore film as a cultural product. Through a close study of key texts (film and written texts), the subject will examine how a particular nation is represented in the films of a particular period. The focus will be on Australian cinema but there will be some comparison with how another national cinema (eg, British) cinema has treated certain themes.

Assessment

Written (4000 words): 60% * Examinations (2 hours): 40% * Tutorial participation
