Tragedy

This subject focuses on ancient classical (Greek) tragedy. Among its central issues are (i) the Greek theatre as a type of performing space; (ii) the development of drama as a genre; (iii) the evolution of specific themes and styles; (iv) relationships between theatre, audience and society; and (v) the distinguishing characteristics of the drama of the three major representatives of this tradition - Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides.
