Introduction to cultural studies II

6 points * 3 hours per week * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: Normally CLS1040

Continuing the work of CLS1040, this subject will examine (a) a series of popular culture genres and texts drawn from a wide variety of contexts, including soap opera, talkback and confessional television and radio, romance, crime and science fiction in film, television and the popular novel; (b) the ethnography of popular subcultures, especially youth cultures; and (c) the analysis and development of private and public cultural policy.

Assessment

One essay (2000 words): 40% * One examination (2 hours): 40% * Tutorial work: 20%
